In the end we had three players qualify for play on Sunday. Only Mark O'Flynn missed out losing in five sets to Conor Nolan. Gavin Maguire and Sara Dolan qualified to join Sam Hanley in the main event. The Qualification tournament was one of the highest standards in recent times and in the end it came down to last 16 matches for Mark and Gavin against good opposition. Mark had to play Conor Nolan and he lost in five sets. Gavin beat Attilla Kovacs in four closely fought sets. Sara qualified for the Sunday round robin with ease.
On Sunday there was mixed fortunes for the players.Sara was not at her best but finished seventh. Sam Hanley played very well and even beat the eventual winner but managed to lose a count back in his group and finished playing for 5-8 where he finished seventh. Gavin had a rocky statr but got his day back on an even kel with some good play and eventually finished tenth. Well done to all concerned.
Cadets Blitz Irish classification Our Cadet boys were in form in the first tournament. Three of them finished in the top 10. Luke O'Shea reached the quarter finals with a gutsy display in the last 16 to overcome Michael Lagan after he went 2-1 down. In the quarter finals he beat Sahne foley and then lost to Declan O'Brien in the semi. Conor Beades knocked Adam Claffey out in the last 12 before losing in the quarters 3-1 to Stephen Slater
On top of that it was an All Eastpoint final in the Junior Boys with our German visitor Flo edging out Sam 3-1
Players head off all over Europe for weekend Mark and Gav are playing for Montpellier TTC in the French league this season. Sam is playing in the German league. all of them were away this weekend. in addition this weekend Conor and Adam were at the Liverpool Select.
