Gavin Maguire in Nationals final

It was only the closest of margins that saw Gavin Maguire lose out on a National Title. After a fantastic run to the final which included a victory over number 2 seed Paul MacCreery in the semi final 3-1 Gavin Maguire came within a whisker of claiming his first National title. In the final he faced Sam Hanley. Sam had beaten the other eastpoint contender Mark O'Flynn 3-2 in the quarter final. the match progressed to 2-2 and the final set was a real nail biting affair with Gavin leading 10-9 sam produced an amazingly brave serve down the line to retrieve the point and went on to win deuce in the fifth. It was heartache for Gavin in his final year but still an excellent and memorable preformance.
