Ian Fahey emerged as runner up in this tough Leinster top 9 Round Robin tournament which featured four Eastpoint players in the Under 12s and two in the Under 17s. Although four of our Under 12s ended up qualifying for the top 9 Round Robin there could have been more when Joe Robinson lost a close 4 setter to Conor Murray. the upset of the tournament was on when Stephen Hanaphy had several match points against Luke OShea to decide who went through from their group before Luke won through deuce in the fifth. In the top 9 the eastpoint result did not reflect the ranking positions. Adam Claffey beat both Luke OShea and Conor Beades and finished fifth in the end. Adam lost in 5 to Jacob Kowalski while Luke and Conor both beat him. Ian Fahey meanwhile also beat both Luke and Conor and then beat Adam in the final match 3-1 to win the battle of the eastpoint players and cement his second place finish behind overall winner Paul ODea. In the under 17s Neal OFlynn was the highest eastpoint player finishing fourth. He recorded wins over Travis Davidson and over Irish Number 3 Cadet Sam Logue before losing out to Sam Hanley the eventual winner. In the Under 14s Sean Slein surprisingly lost out to Eoin Byrne to claim a place in the round robin while Conor Beades took full advantage of Mark ODea's injury to qualify for the final 9. He finished eighth eventually but played well and gained some good experience. All this finalised the selections to the Leinster Interprovincial team to play the Interprovincial Championships in May. |
