The next generation of Eastpoint players made their debut at the Derby Junior Select this March. their performance in the Under 12 age group was very encouraging as they all progressed from their groups and although they were beaten in the next round they aquitted themselves well. Adam Claffey, Conor Beades, Joe Robinson and Luke OShea were the four who travelled this time to the Derby tournament that used to be the traditional haunt of the Leinster Interpro squads Adam and Conor also won games in the Under 14s but it was a tough competition with Kim Daybell ending up as winner in a tournament littered with surprise results. The Juniors on the Sunday was very tough and also produced a surprise result in that Liam Pitchford who had been unable to win the Cadets the day before beat Damien Nicholls in the Semi final in a classic match. He went on to lose to Chris Lewis in the final but still a great result of rsuch a young player. Great experience for our young players and a good opportunity to play against superior opposition. On the Friday night we were also fortunate enough to be able to practice at Draycott and Long Eaton club which was a great opportunity also as it is a beautiful facility and my thanks to Barry Naylor and his son Mark who organised it and came along to play on the night. |
