Andy wins his first Leinster title at the Metropolitan

Andy Boland topped the list of successes for Eastpoint at the Leinster Junior Metropolitan, when he captured the Under 17 boys title. It was avery good weekend with the club having 6 out of nine players in the Under 14 round robin. Mark was a little unlucky not to win the Cadets, only losing on a countback having beaten the winner Daniel Keenan.

But it was Andy's success that was the sweetest as he was winning his first major tournament despite many years of playing. It is just reward for his renewed efforts this season and it did not come that easy in the end. Alarmingly he nearly broke his hand with a fierce Forehand Topspin that saw him smash his hand off the table in an early match in the round robin event. He was forced to take an injury timeout to recover and then only beat Stephen Keenan 3-2.

He was excellent in his other matches however and won eight out of eight to take the Metropolitan Cup. Niall McDonnell had a good win when he knocked out Shane Dolan in the under 17s and went on into the round robin. Mark O'Flynn finished 5th in the juniors and Andrew Holohan also featured well in this event.

The Cadets however had their day in Sunday's round robin. As I mentioned Mark was a bit unlucky not to win. He was 2-0 up on Shane Dolan and had match points in the fourth. However he lost 3-2 and Shane went on to lose 3-2 to Daniel so robbing Mark of second. Still it was a great weekend and a good achievement for the Under 12s. Gavin was fourth, Andrew Holohan was fifth, Shane Foster was sixth, Conor Morgan was eighth, and Neal, still only 9 years old was ninth in the Under 14s

All in all a very good weekend for the Club
