Mark and Gavin Represent Ireland at Primary Schools

Gavin and Mark at the Primary schools

Mark O'Flynn and Gavin Maguire both represented Ireland at the recent Primary Schools Home Countries held in the IWA Dublin. It was a great honour for the club to have two representatives at this event especially as it was the first time that it was held in Ireland.

The Irish team took the bronze medal in the team event beating Scotland 7-3, Guernsey 10-0 and losing narrowly 6-4 to Wales. Although they lost 10-0 there were some good performances and the team acquitted themselves well in what is an excellent event for their age group. In the individuals all the irish boys ended up in the consolation.Keith Knox played extremely well to beat Mark in a thrilling encounter. I don't have the exact scores to hand but I gather it was some thing like 8-11,20-18,15-17,11-9,9-11 to Keith. He went on to win in the final against Patrick Guy also in five sets after being two sets down. While all this was happening in Dublin, Andy Conor and John were in Bratislava at the ISF championships and you can read a full report and see pictures of the evnt at the Irish Schools Website www.istta.com/isf.htm
