Gavin won his first Munster Open title when he took the Under 12 boys title at the recent championships. He beat Niall McDonnell in the final 3-1 after beating Fergal Flanagan in the semi- finals.
Mark O'Flynn lost surprisingly in the last 16 to Darren Casey from Cork after he had reached the Leinster open final only weeks ago. But at under 12 level things are most unpredictable and Gavin who had been in the semi-finals in Leinster produced the cool and collected performance needed to win a major title.
But it was Gavin's day and perhaps the only disappointment was the late hour they played the final which left the majority of us on the train trying to get information by mobile phone!
Both Under 12s have a good deal to look forward to as they are competing in the Cotswold Open in England and also stand a good chance of being on the Irish Team for the Primary Schools Championships.
