Conor Nolan laid claim to the top Ranking spot in Ireland in emphatic fashion at the Leinster Open. Right from the last 32 He was playing players from inside the top 10.He had a great match with Jonny McCarthy in this round. Conor's experience and resolve brought him through a tricky match 3-1 with Jonny fired up having lost a match in his group. In the last 16 Conor beat Killian Healy 3-0 before taking on Colin Byrne in the quarter finals. This was another close match with Colin looking really good in the set that he won but Conor's fierce forehand topspin managed to edge him in front in the third and he ran out 3-1 winner of this encounter. In the semis Conor now had to face Sean Brady because Anthony Glain, a friend of Sean Givernaud's from France, was in the other half and in fact knocked out Sean in the quarters in a thrilling match. Conor again showed why he is the Number one in the country in a great display against Sean Brady. He won 3-1 but Sean was a real threat throughout the match. Andrew Boland had an excellent tournament also with a fine win 3-2 over Conor Fahy in the last 16 in a thrilling match. He then produced a superb display in the quarters against Sean Brady where he fought out four close sets before going down to a 3-1 defeat. In the 5-8 playoff there was superb competition and any did well to finish 6th in Ireland beating John Murphy 2-1 and losing narrowly 2-1 to Sean Givernaud who finished 5th. Anthony Glain won the tournament beating Conor 3-0 in the final but it was still a very good day for the club with Sean Givernaud putting in a good performance and being unfortunate to run into Anthony in the quarter finals |
