Mark O’Flynn reached the final the Leinster Junior Open Ranking tournament. Mark beat Patrick Guy from Belfast in the semi finals 3-1 to make it to his first final. Although Mark lost the first set he continued to play aggressively taking the next three sets to win his way to the final. In the quarter finals he beat Keith Knox from Ulster also 3-1. Gavin Maguire also featured in the final stages in what was a very good tournament for the Club. Gavin beat Carl Ivory in the quarter finals in fine style 3-0 but lost to Niall McDonnell from Dublin in the semi final. Gavin had beaten Niall in the previous tournament but Niall played well on the day and was the eventual winner. In the final Mark won the first against Niall before Niall asserted his superiority to take the next three. Mark is ranking Number 3 and Gavin Number 5 in the Under 12 boys in Ireland. Both of them have had a fine season and are almost certainly going to represent Ireland at the Home Countries Primary Schools Championships |
