Brian Fitzgerald wins Connacht Open title

Brian Fitzgerald won the final of the Connacht Open against Darryl Strong with his usual style and just before that he had beaten Dave Pemberton in the semi-finals 3-0. In fact the only indication that he was fallible on the day at all was a five set match with Robbie Becker in the quarters finals. Even then Brian was well in control of the fifth and came through admirably.

Brian had earlier lost the doubles semi final with his partner Tom Conroy from Cork to John Murphy and Conor Nolan who played superbly in the doubles all day and ended up winning the tournament by beating John Bowe and Darryl Strong in the final.

John Bowe lost in the semi fianls to Damien Lynch who then lost in the semi finals to Darryl Strong. This was disappointing for Damien who had played well all day and had also had a close five setter with Darryl at the Ulster Open
