Old Masters,Young Heads: John masters the Art of winning at the Ulster Junior Open

Young gun john plays like a bit of an old master

John Murphy showed his masterly touch in Newtonabbey when he swept all before him to win the Ulster Junior Open title in the final Irish Junior ranking. Playing like an Old Master, Young John battled and fought for every point and out of every tight spot to triumph in the end.

No easy draw and nearly out in the quarters when he was down 10-4 in the third to David McNeill. But there was a new steely maturity in this performance and John scrambled back and finally attacked his way to a 21-17 in the third win.

In the Semis John played some stinging topspin to overcome Sean Brady the Irish No.1, 15-21, 21-9,21-16 in another thrilling encounter. The final lived up to it's billing also with Colin taking the first set 21-16 and looking good in the second before John crept back to nick it 21-16.

In the third you could never doubt that John's deft serving and ferocious forehand were going to secure victory. In spite of Colin's best efforts John was peerless on the day and won a popular and well deserved victory.
