Conor wins and two other quarter- finalists in Junior Boys at the Munster Junior Open

john sean conor andy and brian Conor was a deserved winner of the Munster Junior Open on the 20th January.

Conor had anything but an easy passage to the final playing John Murphy in the quarter finals in a close three setter 21-15 in the third. In the Semi-final he had to face current Irish No.1 Sean Brady. This match was also a three set affair with Sean winning the first and Conor coming storming back to win the next two and take the match in one of the matches of the tournament.

In the final Conor had three sets again with Colin Byrne playing well to win the second to level the score at one game all. In the third Conor produced as good a display of left - hand attack as I have ever seen mixing fierce loops with excellent spin to completely outplay Colin.

At Eastpoint we are very proud of our association with the ALSAA club and give our warmest congratulations to Conor

It was a strange weekend culminating in a flat tyre when I went to pick up my car at the station (thanks Al). We had three players in the quarter finals John Murphy, Conor and Andy Boland.

All weekend our players played on another with Conor playing John in the quarter finals and Andy playing Sean Givernaud in the last 32.This was particularly galling as they are both top ten players. The match was one of the matches of the tournament with Andy being more positive in the third to win 21-18.There were lots of good rallies and Andy played some of his best table tennis of the season. In the last sixteen he beat Paul O'Donovan from Cork two straight and in the quarter finals had a tough match with Sean Brady, which he lost 2-0.

To continue the theme Andy played John in the 5-8 playoff. This time he lost 21-18 in the third in another high quality game. In the Cadets James and Robert played in their first round group..as did Mark and Andrew two of our under-12s.This age group hold a good deal of promise but a lot of work has to be done still.

Sean Givernaud played well in the Mens group but was unlucky to lose to Robert Gavan in three sets. He seem as if he was going to qualify when he beat J.P. Murphy in two sets in which he played well, only to discover that Gavan had been put in his group.

Brian Farrell was beaten in the last sixteen by David McNeill but still had one of his better tournaments of recent times. He partnered Andy Boland to the quarter-finals of the Mens Doubles with a good win over David O'Rourke and Thomas Conroy. Alan Monks lost to Colin Byrne in the quarter-finals of the Mens event which was disappointing for him having won the New Year Challenge only two weeks ago.
