Couple of losses leaves league title out of reach

A couple of losses in a row have left prospect of a fourth league title a distance hope at this stage in the season. We lost 6-3 away against Pioneers. It was a closely fought match with lots of 5 setters but the team of Marcus McDonnell, Conor Nolan and Mark OFlynn were just not strong enough on the night. John was sorely missed for that one but he was back in form against UCD where he had a good win against Eoin Byrne.

Strangely UCD chose to bring over Ryan Jenkins the Welsh number one and about the strongest player in the British Isles at the moment to play against us. This rather spoiled the match which had been close and competative the previous time. But I suppose if you want to win the league that bad!

We followed that up with an 8-1 victory over Leinster.

Stuttering start to title defense

The eastpoint Premier team made a stuttering start to their titlke defense when they drew 5-5 with UCD. It was a cracking match but the disappointment for us was that Marcus McDonnell lost three singles to ensure that only a draw was possible. John Bowe had a good win over James Wrightman and Conor Nolan equally played superbly to overpower Eoin Byrne.both players lost the reverse match while both beating Ross Cullen. Ross had a good win over Marcus to set up the draw for UCD who might have been disappointed not wo win on the night. Marcus will improve as the season goes along however and the return will be a fittting climax to the season.
In our second match eastPoint overcame Mount Pleasant 6-3. Niall McDonnell made his premier debut with a good win over Shane Ormsby while John Bowe won three and Marcus two
